Viral respiratory and enteric diseases of lambs in Hungary
نویسنده
چکیده
In the last decade considerable changes have taken place in the sheep industry in Hungary. Increasing numbers of sheep have been concentrated in newly established farms where intensive fattening methods have been practi sed. At present about 90 per cent of sheep are concentrated in large farms. Approximately 60-70 per cent of the total income of the sheep industry comes from the meat product ion. An average daily weight gain of 240-260 grams has been reached. The fattening period to bring up lambs to 30-35 kilograms per head has shortened from the previous 160-180 days to 120-140 days. The intensive management , especially intensive indoor fattening method has crea ted various animal health problems. In these farms from time to time large numbers of animals with different immunological background are collected from different external sources creating situations which favour the occur rence of various infectious diseases.

Respiratory disorders are major concern for dairy cattle industry. Viruses and bacteria in combinationwith stress play a key role in triggering acute respiratory infections. The most important viral agents arebovine viral diarrhoea virus (BVDV), bovine herpes virus type 1 (BHV-1), bovine respiratory syncytial virus(BRSV), parainfluenza virus type 3 (PIV-3) and bovine adenovirus (BAV). This cros...

As regards the significant role of stethoscopes in the diagnosis of congenital and adventitious heart diseases and prevention of irreparable complications of these diseases, the quality of hearing sound of these stethoscopes by a physician has a significant impact on the disease diagnosis. This device plays an important role in the early diagnosis of congenital heart and respiratory diseases an...
متن کاملRespiratory syncytial virus infection is associated with an altered innate immunity and a heightened pro-inflammatory response in the lungs of preterm lambs
INTRODUCTION Factors explaining the greater susceptibility of preterm infants to severe lower respiratory infections with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) remain poorly understood. Fetal/newborn lambs are increasingly appreciated as a model to study key elements of RSV infection in newborn infants due to similarities in lung alveolar development, immune response, and susceptibility to RSV. Pre...
متن کاملReduced clearance of respiratory syncytial virus infection in a preterm lamb model.
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) causes significant respiratory disease in children worldwide. For the study of severe RSV disease seen in preterm infants, a suitable animal model is lacking. The novel hypothesis of this study was that preterm lambs are susceptible to bovine RSV (bRSV) infection, an analogous pneumovirus with ruminant host specificity, and that there would be age-dependent dif...

Acute bacterial and viral pneumonia can affect any age of animal, but most commonly occurs in lambs aged three to 12 months after acquired maternal antibody titres have waned. Cases of chronic pneumonia usually present with illthrift and varying degrees of respiratory compromise, with respiratory distress usually initially evident during exercise. The infectious agents described below have been...
